On the borders of Derbyshire and Staffordshire, between the valleys of the Dove and the Manifold Rivers, is the charming village of Alstonefield. With real charm and character, this wonderful little settlement has won the 'Best Kept Village Award' ten times – most recently in 2005 – and was also in the final of the 'National Village of the Year' award in 1998. With a traditional country pub set just off the village green, this is a truly special holiday destination. Set in verdant green countryside, and along the course of the 'Manifold Trail' – which follows the route of the old Leek to Manifold Light Railway – this is an ideal spot for walkers or cyclists. The pretty towns of Ilam and Hartington are close by and provide a wide range of amenities such as shops and cafes, whilst further a field are the pretty market towns of Ashbourne and Leek.
