Clonbur in County Galway is a great place to head for a self catering short break or holiday... there is so much to see and do. Click here to find out more »
Loughs Corrib and Mask have earned international acclaim from discriminating anglers and Clonbur is centrally located for both lakes. Another place of unique beauty is Lough Coolin, a small lake set like a glittering gem in the foothills of Mount Gable, just 3 miles from Clonbur. For the more adventurous, Mount Gable is an easy climb of about one hour's duration. The effort is worthwhile because the views of Lough Corrib, stretching away to the south, Lough Mask to the north and the Connemara mountains to the west, are spectacular and breathtaking. Alternatively, a short drive towards Cong and a turn right will bring you to the famous Pigeon Hole, the site where 66 steps in a huge cleft in the limestone floor of the Ashford Castle woods lead to a vast underwater cavern. This contains one of the many underground streams that flow from Lough Mask to Lough Corrib.
