Crathie is located in the Cairngorms National Park at the heart of Royal Deeside. It is a favourite Scottish retreat of the Royal Family with Balmoral Castle less than a mile away whilst Queen Victoria's personal servant, John Brown, is buried in the graveyard in Crathie Church. The village of Crathie is one of the destinations on the Castle Trail, not only because of Balmoral but because of its close proximity to Abergeldie Castle. The Cairngorms National Park contains spectacular scenery, offering many opportunities for leisure activities and walks. The abundance of wildlife makes it a paradise for naturalists and birdwatchers. Nearby Braemar Golf Club is the highest 18-hole course in Scotland, and is split in two by the River Clunie.
