The village of Hornby, in the Lune Valley, is bordered by the Lake District to the north, and the Yorkshire Dales to the east. Set on an old pack-horse route, Hornby is situated close to where the River Wenning joins the River Lune. Hornby Castle is set on a high hill overlooking the river and is known as the subject of one of Turner's best-loved paintings. Consisting of a scattering of traditional houses, a church, two pubs and a Post Office with tearoom, there are several quiet walks around the village and other walks and places of interest close by.
