The former medieval wool town of Long Melford is known as the 'Antique Capital of Suffolk' for its large quantity of antique shops, art galleries, independent shops, restaurants and tearooms. The village is also home to an impressive 15th Century church perched on the top of the hill at one end of the village; the National Trust property Melford Hall which has remained unchanged and untouched since 1578; and on the outskirts, Kentwell Hall, with its authentic re-constructions of everyday life in Tudor or World War II times. The beautiful surrounding area is known as Constable Country, and the picturesque villages of Lavenham and Sudbury are close by and waiting to be explored.
