Whippingham is a picturesque village on the outskirts of East Cowes, on the bank of the River Medina. The village is perhaps best known for the connections it has with Queen Victoria supporting the royal household with alehouses, Albert’s ‘Model’ farm and forges. St Mildred’s, Whippingham’s local church, is one of a small band of churches that were closely linked with neighbouring Royal residences and as a result have many interesting, historical and beautiful features, in particular the five soaring pinnacles, designed by Albert, and reminiscent of a castle in the Rhine.
